Question:

Will transmission fluid hurt the oil filter2?

I accidentally put transmission fluid in the oil and drove it for about 10 miles. had already changed the oil right before that happened and making it three quarts over on fluid overall in the engine and 3 less in the transmission. about at the end of the 10 mile drive and started to smoke some and engine light came on for a second I stopped in open the hood and realize what I did and drained it immediately and filled it up with new oil. rev‘d it up some and stop smoking and has seemed fine sense. but I haven‘t change the filter yet and I‘m still planning to do another oil change.its a synthetic filter

Answer:

No, transmission fluid by itself will not damage the filter. (If you'll recall, most transmissions have filters.) However, there will still be a certain amount of trans fluid (and oil) still filling the filter, so it is an excellent idea to do a complete oil change with a new filter as soon as possible.
