I tried this 50 years ago with aluminum foil To combat raising damp It worked on the one wall but not on the others Never found out why as I'd wasted quite a lot of wall paper And could not afford to repeat the experiment but perhaps those three walls were wetter So I used lead foil that was made for the job Don’t know if it’s still made
