I have a plastic cage right now for my hamster (syrian hamster if it makes a diff) but im thinking of getting a wire cagewhich is better in your opinion?and dont just say its up to me
Neither, a plastic cage will be chewed through and they recieve poor ventilation and with a wire cage you will constantly be picking up bedding that he has kicked out. The thing to buy is a 10 gallon aquarium. they cost 10 dollars and they wont cause any of they problems that you would have with a wire or plastic cage.
Wire cages are much much better! In plastic cages, if its hot your hamster can literally cook in them. The wire cages let the air through and its not so stuffy. Also, there is a illness that most hamsters get when in a plastic cage. If you get a wire cage, make sure the space between isn't more than a half an inch or your hamster might be able to get through. Also, go online and look at reviews of that cage... you might just find that that cage would have been a horrible choice.
I personally prefer wire cages and have used them for most of my hamsters all through the years. The reasons I prefer them over glass/plastic cages are - 1.They allow more ventilation compared to glass/plastic cages. In glass/plastic cages, due to less ventilation, there is more buildup of smells of hamster poop and urine which has never been a problem in wire cages. 2.They are easier to clean 3.They do not have condensation of moisture inside the cage that happens in glass/plastic cages which have not been cleaned regularly. 4. The most important thing about wire cages is that they allow better interaction with the hamster compared to glass/plastic ones. I can even feed them through the cage bars and it allows for a two way interaction between me and my hamsters. Many people complain that their hamsters escape through the cage bars easily but that is because they dont buy cages that are designed for hamsters. A hamster specific wire cage like Habitrail or Crittertrail never has faced that problem.
In my experience, a wire cage is good. It gives them something to climb, and it's better for ventilation. Also if you can get a larger (2/3 floors) wire cage that's even better! Syrian hamsters can get quite big, and it's good to give them as much space as possible. Also a Syrian could get stuck in anything with tubes or plastic sections.
well for me, a wire cage is better. if you get a plastic cage you wont have to worry about your hammie chewing on the bars, but remember that hamsters are very active at night so they can climb on the bars and chew it to shorten their teeth. went i first got my hamsters, they started climbing on the bars at night as if they were monkey bars. its very funny :D and plastic cages are all around the same small size but wire cages hav small and big size. even though plastic cages hav some holes to let in the air, but think about how hard it will be to let the air out.wire cages have removable plastic bases to make it easier to clean your hammies cage.
