Question:

Would an exhaust system on a 1.6L v4 engine make any speed gains?

Im thinking of installing an exhaust system on my 2007 toyota corolla s. ive heard some good and bad things depending on who you talk to. is there a straight answer to this? basically will an exhuast system like a nice magnaflow provide any speed gains? ive also heard it will kill what little torque i have. if thats true what does that mean? i thought a good exhaust system would boost the torque?

Answer:

you have an inline 4 not a v-4, dont waste the money, upgrade to a better car, up to a 2 1/4 exhaust is overkill on your car, might not kill your torque, just your wallet, get a Scion Xb or a mustang if you want to buy exhaust systems. keeping the tires properly inflated will provide speed gains, really thats not a car to modify. if your dead set on goin faster look up a Greddy turbo kit
huge tanks take huge wallets
get a huge tank from petsmart or some pet store and put water in it and dump salt in it and buy the fish dont take the fish out of the bag put the bag of fish in the water so they can get used to the tempature of the water and there you go you have your fish good luck with your fish :)
if i were you, i would start out with a small one. the big ones are EXTREMELY expensive. saltwater fish need a lot of room. you might not be able to put many kinds together because they will bite each other. all together it will cost you thousands of dollars, and you have to have the space.
a turbo kit would be pretty costly, you would have to put an intercooler, new intake manifold, and a downpipe, just to name a few to install a turbo, yes you would definitley get quite a bit of speed gain, but you might as well buy another car for that price, what you can do to make your car sound better, not necessarily be faster, is put on a cold air intake with metal piping because the plastic just ain't cutting it, and then add an exhaust tip, not some gay ricer tip, but a nice full sounding tip like an apexi catback exhaust
