Like, the idea of street preforming. Singing or playing an instrument or exploiting a skill for money. I know most public places are okay without getting permission or a permit, but I was curious specifically about malls.

Yes This is not a public place, it is private property open to the public. As such you have no Free Speech right which entitles you to perform there.
A mall is private property. You would need permission. Street performing is legal as generally the streets are public.
