Question:

would it hurt the transmission if oil got into the transmission fluid resivoir?

Vehicle 2008 Hyundai Elantra accidentally got put some oil in wrong reservoir will this damage transmission? or do I need to have it flushed out?

Answer:

Depends on how much oil was put into the transmission. A tablespoon of oil into a transmission would not likely affect anything, a quart would be another thing altogether. In either case, it should NOT cause damage if you get the trans fluid changed and flushed immediately. You can use engine oil in an automatic transmission in an emergency! I would flush the transmission as soon as possible to avoid any possible issues with the interaction of the chemicals in the different oils. The Hyundai/KIA transmission requires a SP-III type trans fluid, probably synthetic and it might react to the additives in the oil. How much oil was added? I would be more worried about overfilling and aerating the trans fluid. Get it changes and flushed and you should be OK.
How much is some? If just a tablespoon you should be fine. BTW the transmission does not have a reservoir tank.
I'm confused since I have never seen a transmission fluid reservoir. Are you sure it wasn't your power steering reservoir? Many of them use ATF.
Did you check the fluid.?
Do you hear the whining noise in park?
