Assuming you are thinking of PPS as the district you would work for.(although Beaverton Schools may be a better long term alternative, it is growing, not contracting).you would do well to find a neighborhood apartment nearer the school you would teach at rather than in the tower areas downtownIn the outlying areas you find more two story walk up and flats than the high rise apartment buildings of the boring inner cityIf you were to teach at the alternative school in the NW area The Pearl may make sense.but there are a lot of quaint older apartments in the NW section that offer a more quality slice of life than a modern new box life apartment I suggest you visit Portland and spend some time looking at the apartments available.two years is a long time.to get a flavor of what the neighborhoods are like and the buildings in the areas are town As you can tell I like older more established architecture rather than the new boxes they are buildingTo each their own Come enjoy the city and see what it holds after all you have two years to travel here number of timesI moved here one month after seeing it for the first timeI've never been unable to find great housing selections.
Most apartments in older sections of Portland are similar to New York's apartmentsThe Pearl District and downtown areas especiallyThe rest of Portland and the surrounding suburban areas have apartment complexes similar to CaliforniaOther major cities in Oregon (Salem, Eugene) have apartment complexes like California too Summers in Oregon are beautifulMost days are in the 80'sWe generally have a week or so of really hot weather (high 90's to 100) but it always cools off dramatically at night (not unusual for it to get down to 60 at night even when it's been 100 during the day)Most people do not have air conditioning in their homes and apartmentsNot really worth it for 2 weeks a yearAll people do when it's hot out is wait until 8:00 p.mand then open their windows to let in the cool night airWithin a couple of hours the house/apartment is nice and cool again.
