As far as I know the alarm on 3-series has always been optional. The MSRP price for the alarm kit is $328.95, which the dealer will probably charge you $400-430 for. The dealer should provide you installation instructions with the kit, basically you plug in the alarm module to a pre-wired plug behind the glovebox and install the alarm siren in the correct location and probably needs to be coded to the car. I see little problem with it. If others have a problem with it, then I am sure they will not patronize those shops. The true test will be whether it is a finanially viable system. Some potential customers who may have been intimidated by a gang of teenagers hanging out may be more encouraged to shop. I was a pretty bad kid as a teenager. I think preventing loitering is the lesser of the two evils.
