Question:

1995 Lincoln Town Car Compressor runs but rear wont lift up.?

95 Town car rear air suspension started to drop intermittently. Then stopped all together. Compressor runs for a few minutes after I start the car, then the (Check air suspension) light comes on, rear never raises up. I assumed that it was the level switch on the rear axle, changed it without verifying that was the problem, didn‘t fix the issue. Im thinking one of the relief valves on the airbags is stuck open, or a leak in the hose. But the fact that it was intermittent for a while then just stopped working makes me think mechanical. Would just one relief valve stuck open cause the whole rear to sag? What else would cause this symptom? Front works just fine.

Answer:

neither. you should stop playing before you become a no life and get really fat. (not being mean, just trying to help)
Your control module may be bad. The brain box went bad on my markVIII and just had it replaced 2 weeks ago. My problems were similar to yours. The module is under the glove box on the side or the car. So you have to take all that apart to install. Dealer did it for me for about $130 And I had to find the part. Take to dealer to check the light. I bet your module is bad too.
The compressor could be worn and just making noise, but not compressing. You have to use a gage to measure pressure. Drive the car in reverse onto car ramps. Verify that the rear height sensor is not broken and wires are intact. Unbolt the height sensor it and move it to it's maximum extension with parking brakes set, wheel chocked, the car engine running. Verify that all air bags are serviceable and that there are no cut wires, or abraded and leaking air lines. To avoid this recurring misery, upgrade you car to coil springs and conventional shocks.
I had the same problem, the air pump would come on and level, then shut off. the rubber air suspension bags are getting old and cracked from all the up and down flexing of the suspension Order the air suspension bags from Auto Zone Parts Store or go to their computer web sight and order, I believe about $130.00 each then go to Midas Muffler shop or a small in dependent shop and have them installed. Ford, Lincoln Garage will nail you about $900.00. You! can also replace the rear air suspension with heavy coil springs from a Ford Crown Victoria.or Mecury Marques
