Hello, I have always had a fear of lightning and so do my horses. I live way up on a hill surrounded by 68 acres of open field. I can't keep my horses in their stalls during a storm because they go crazy and will try to break out and will eventually. I have no lightning rods, but for you, I suggest placing them everywhere. I let my horses loose with shelter being optional. My barn is located in a small 1 acre paddock, accessible to the horses 24/7. I close the all doors except the front and stall doors. This way, if lightning would strike the barn, the horses could run out. I also leave the gate to the 8 acre grass pasture open, for extra escape room. 3 horses are probably less than what you have, but it's a decent plan.
A Kidde KID466204 ABC extinguisher has 10 pounds of chemical, and weighs 19 pounds. An Ansul 10 pound carbon dioxide extinguisher weighs 34 pounds in steel, and 26.75 pounds in aluminum. ABC extinguishers are just as easy to use as CO2, and much heavier. The stated reasons for choosing separate water and CO2 are not valid.. A valid reason for choosing CO2 would be because cleanup after discharge.
