Answer:

I've done it with varying results. Most pallets seem to be made of pine. It burns fast and hot, but pops and sparks quite a bit, and it's also full of pitch which then coats up your chimmney and increases the risk of fire from cresote buildup. It's good for starter logs but I wouldn't try to keep warm with them. You'd be loading the fireplace every half hour and would need a chimney sweep once a month. Sometimes you find pallets made from oak, and those burn great. I've only found maybe 1 per every 50 pallets though.
softwood from pallets are consumed faster then hardwood from a tree... Nice for Bonfires, not good for Heating your home.
the smart answer can only be given with the size of your house and location of wood burning stove.... wood stoves have no thermostats,,, so if your buying wood in the end you ll loose money an concentrate your heat in one area... central heat is controlled an efficient but if you have a free wood source go wood till it runs out at this time of year its all about the $$$$$
Pros, its wood it will burn .. burning causes heat.. Cons.. you will have to clean the chimminey often sue to creosote build up.. the wood will burn fast, and burn out fast so you have to keep on it.. and with that in mind you will run out fast.
Actually, pallets are made from both hard and soft woods. The soft woods such as pine are not good for you chimney but you can certainly burn the hardwood without doing damage. As long as they have been cured for a year, you should have no problem.
