Question:

company that's manufacturing excavator's buckets is considered as civil engineering or mechanical engineering?

i'm not dealing with engineering line. This might soubds like a stupid question to ask. But i just need to know. Hope you can help me to sort it out. Thanks alot.

Answer:

For this particular case I would say both but more towards mechanical engineering. Excavator bucket involves in geology which is civil engineer major.
The bucket diesigner/builder would be Mechanical Engineering. Even though the end use is Civil-related, the company in question is going to have mostly mechanical engineers.
Mechanical engineering. The civil engineers would be the ones dealing directly with the location of the ground (job site). Civil engineers are mostly concerned with the building structures or ground with project management as a focus. A mechanical engineer would be focused on the machine aspect.
Civil engineering is about infrastructure design such as water systems, bridges, traffic flow, etc. Mechanical engineering is about equipment design like your excavator buckets.
