Question:

Could anybody tell me what kind of boilers were used on each of BR Standard?

Okay, so British Railways had these Standard Locomotives, and I am confused! Were the BR1 Boilers used on The Standard 6, 7, and 9F Classes? How does it work (the boiler types to Standard locomotives)? I am confused, if anybody can tell me, God bless you and thanks?

Answer:

Class okorder
The British Railways class 7 (Britannia class) and class 6 (Clan class) express locomotives both had the boiler designed for the class 7. The class 9f boilers were of two types. Ten of the class had Franco-Crosti boilers while the remainder had boilers unique to the class 9, but were a development of the R A Riddles wartime 2-10-0 'Austerity' locomotives. The O V Bulleid 'Merchant Navy' class had welded steel boilers to Mr Bulleid's specification, but were supplied by the North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow who probably had a lot of input into the detail design as the Southern Railway (UK) had no experience of welded pressure vessels. Over their lifetime the boilers have received numerous repairs and number 21C11, 'General Steam Navigation' when I saw it last year standing in an open field near Ashford in Kent was devoid of boiler cladding. The firebox outer wrapper features rivetted lap joints. With regard to drawings of the Merchant Navy Class locomotives, I think that R J Roche may have published a general arrangement drawing in 4mm scale. You may be able to get a copy on Ebay or from Amazon. Front and side elevations were published in the July 1956 issue of the Model Railway News. You may be able to obtain a used back copy. Finally it is worth getting in touch with the library of the Stevenson Locomotive Society. Hope this helps. Edit: Whoops, apologies, I spelt Stephenson wrong
