If it is the old rubber ball type, you can usually twist off the retainer ring, and clean the ball itself and the roller wheels with some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip. If the roller wheels are freewheeling on their shafts, you may be able to fix it with a drop of crazy glue. If it is the optical type, you need to use it on a surface with a tight pattern on it. solid colored surfaces leave the mouse flying blind. If it is a wireless mouse, you need to replace the batteries. If none of this works. try buying a new mouse. They are cheap. I even see them at Big Lots. If the problem persists, it may be a software issue. There is a menu in settings under the control panel that allows you to set cursor speed, click speed, etc. You can play with the settings till you find what works best for you.
