disapline, teach them right from wrong, food, water, clothing, a place to live untill their 18 i would say if they can a bit of money for school as much as they can afford.my parents gave me nothing for school they said their parents didnt pay for them or give them a dime when they where in school. and to be honest my parents told me at 14 i had to get a job i had to get a flyer route because they stoped buying me stuff they only bought me food at this piont i had to buy clothes since i was 14.i started becoming a lifeguard because a flyer route at $15 a month didnt buy me hardy anything i got myself a new t shirt or a toy 1 thing a month. and i knew i had to pay for school somehow because i knew i wasnt getting anything. i wish i got a car, would have beem the best day of my life i still dont have a car still saving :(
..Dear Josh, basically a parent owes only love, shelter and safety, food and clothing. They don't owe a child a college education. They don't owe the child a car. More and more parents these days are choosing to try to provide more education and a car, but they certainly don't owe it to their children. They should intervene is their child's life when it interferes with one of the basic needs, or when the parent feels that their child needs some guidance in their lives. :-)
It probably would be better if you just get a sleeping bag that has sufficient insulation and use a closed-cell sleeping mat. When I was camping in Antarctica we used a closed cell mat, a thermarest, and a -40F bag. You probably won't have to go to that extreme. A ground cloth under the tent could also isolate the bottom of your tent from the snow. I have used a rugged space blanket (not the cheap emergency space blankets, but one that is more like a lightweight tarp with a reflective surface on itor a piece of plastic tarpsome tents come with a footprint that clips into the bottom). Cutting tree limbs is very old school and is not encouraged anymore due to the leave no trace ethic promoted by most organizations, including the Scouts.
