Question:

How much is a transmission?

For a 1995 dodge intrepid? The motor and everything else is good but the transmission is slipping

Answer:

New tires extra suitable traction. That make the front experience like its loosing traction. verify the counseled tire stress for each and all of the tires. possibly an alignment may be mandatory. which could probably help.
If your current tires are rated M+S (Mud and Snow) you would be fine. However if your tires are not, good luck in snow. The tires that came with my car were not and it only took 1 snowfall to change my mind. Currently I have the set of Dunlops that came with the car, and I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25's. It is a night and day differences. There is no way I could have driven in the winter on the Dunlops that the car came with. Anyway, this is my 3rd winter on them and still going strong. If you have the extra money, it is totally worth it.
Call around your local salvage yards and ask. The main price indicator is going to be how many miles are on the used transmission. The lower the miles, the higher the price. I would imagine you will end up spending 400 to 800 for an used. However, some yards will want the core back. So you will need to drop off the bad transmission once you are done to get some of your money back. The second piece is will you be putting the transmission in, or know someone who will? Or have a shop do it? That can also add 400 to 500 for the repair.
The tread patterns make the difference.
