Question:

Magnetic insulation 10 points?

I want to know if there any house hold items that can be used as magnetic insulation, it can be small. No answers that don‘t say anything. Thanks!

Answer:

Any ferrous metal can be used as magnetic insulation, but it has the downside of being magnetizable, in other words, it can become a magnet in the presence of a strong enough field. If you take enough transformers apart you can find laminated iron segments or ferrite ceramic plates that make excellent magnetic insulation. The only material that will truly keep a magnetic field out is a superconductor, and there are few of those lying around a typical house.
You need something made of iron or nickel to use as a magnetic insulator. An iron skillet could work if you have an iron cover to put over it. The skillet and cover must surround the item to be isolated, the iron will prevent a magnetic field from flowing through the item you need to protect.
Soft iron is one of the few materials that can act as a magnetic shield, which is what I think you mean by magnetic insulation. Small means what? A steel box will not work as well as an iron box, but it will provide some shielding. Remember that the shielding has to surround the object being shielded. Mu-metal is about the best material, but that is expensive. More details will help. .
