Question:

Manual vs Automatic Transmission in Racing games?

Every racing game has an option in the game either manual or automatic transmission? What gives?Which side is better?

Answer:

In Automatic transmission, the gear shifts automatically, thereby removing the task of changing gears by yourself, making you focus more on your driving (accelerating, braking, steering.) In Manual transmission, It's you who shifts the gears, Though it gives you more control over the speed of your car, It's hard to drive while changing gears AND driving (accelerating, braking, steering.) Changing gears at the wrong time costs speed. So it's easier to drive in Automatic. Which is better in most situations. But in drag races, I'd prefer using manual.
I can't use automatic when I play GT3 (I never got 4 but maybe will someday). I started using manual when playing 2 and got so used to it that not having it would be like taking away the steering wheel. Drifting is night to impossible without it as I prefer a lower gear than automatic would have me in while spinning my wheels lose around turns. I often upshift early with cars like the Viper to keep the wheels gripping in back. A friend of mine who is used to auto came over and we both raced each other in my Vantage and he was like How the hell can you drive this thing? Because it was tuned for my style which utilizes the advantages of manual shifting.
