Question:

saltwater?

okay i want to start a saltwater tank again.is it okay to just like go to a beach or somethingand get the water there?and if not can you explain to me how to set up a marine tank??thanks.

Answer:

No, don't go to the ocean- its much too dirty and doesn't go in a tank. Ask your local fish store (where you plan to buy the fish.) How to set it up. I know that its very difficult to keep up with a saltwater tank- if I were you I'd stick with freshwater.
no, water from the sea can have unknown toxins in it such as sewage etc. it's better to get your saltwater pre-mixed from an aquatics store to begin with, you can learn to mix your own from there. for a first marine tank don't try anything in any less than 30-50 US gallons, the larger it is, the easier it is to maintain as water quality and parameters can fluctuate dramatically in smaller tanks. there are dozens of websites on setting up marine tanks out there, see below, each tank will be slightly different so be sure to do your reading and buy some books before you plunge headlong into it!
DO NOT GO TO THE OCEAN it contains to much bacteria. you will need a heater, protein skimmer, marine salt, you can buy coral and other such decorations at any fish store you will also need to get water quality supplies and tests. research salt water tanks on the net, to find more info
