It's really in between your two examples. It is not a highly reflective, shiny surface, and it is not totally matte either. Mine has a white liner that does aid in the reflection of light, but it is still a soft, diffused reflection, much the same as the covering on the outside of the box at the front. I really don't know what particular material you could use on the inside of yours, possibly some matte white cardboard such as poster board. Just please be very careful as to how you make this and position the bulb. A home made softbox is a fire just waiting to happen. Certainly NEVER leave it unattended, and keep an electrical safe fire extinguisher on hand. steve
