Windows Media Center for Vista I hooked up to my cable box and it wont play.?

I have comcast digital cable and I hooked up my computer to my cable box. Now it tells me im missing IR control Cables Im not sure what that means when I hook the cable from the comp. Directly to the wall it works, but I dont get the upgraded cable channels

when i called comcast they told me good luck,their system was not equipped to handle that,good luck
The IR cable is so you can change the station on your cable box from your puter. The media center cant properly set your channels up if it cant scan them during setup. You can either stick with it running by itself not hooked up to the cable box or get a remote system with the IR cables but first be sure you have a place on your tv tuner to plug IR cables in. Not all tuners have IR ports.
You need to have an IR/cable box compatible transmitter and receiver which should have come with the computer. If not you can buy one at CDW. It is used to control and change the channel through the set top box. The transmitter connects by USB to the back of the computer;it has a receiver that plugs into the back of the transmiiter the black other end being taped or glued to the IR/Remote receiver on the front of the set top box. Then you're in!
