Question:

12 test tube lab help?

This is the last lab in my Chemistry class this year and I'm having trouble figuring this outMy teacher gave us 12 test tubes with solutions and a list of what they might be, but we don't know which is whichAnd the only way we can figure them out is by mixing the solutions or by their color or odorThe solutions are:.2M Potassium Chromate1.0M Aluminum Chloride1.0M Sodium Carbonate6M Hydrochloric acid6M Sodium Hydroxide.1M Silver Nitrate6M Ammonia.1M Lead (II) Nitrate.1M Ferric Nitrate1.0M Sodium Acetate.1M Copper Sulfate.1M Nickel ChlorideSomeone please help me figure out which chemicals react with which, and how to figure out which one is whichThank you

Answer:

DON'T USE NEWSPAPER! Not only is it a severe fire hazard, it can invite mold and other issues if it gets wetFiberglass is probably your best bet, if you can get into the wallsIf you can't, try the blankets.
My cousin shredded up newspapers and placed them inside black trash bags and then took the air out of the bagHe put them all over the garage walls and you couldn't hear anything from the outside but a little bit of a muffle Very cheap alsoI bet you could talk some neighbors into saving their papers for you.especially once they know what it's for;-)
There is no cheap wayAny real solutions involve major construction projects like building sound walls or sheet rocking with expensive sound deadening boardThen, there is the issue of the garrage doorThis is almost impossible to sound proofYour cheapest solution is to buy an electronic drum set, and wear headphonesA compremise may be to stuff sound dampening matterial inside the drums (blankets, pillows, etc.) I realize this ruins the experince of playing, but, it is a better experience than having the cops at your door.
We had to do a lab like this, but with 6 test tubes (and about 20 or so options)You'll need a colour chart, and a solubility chart1Look at the colour chart and see if any of your chemicals match up (colour to one of the options on the list, and in the chart)2Go from thereOnce you know one substance, it gets a whole lot easierFigure out as many as you can by colour alone, without mixing any3This is the annoying partLet's say that you know one substance by colour (let's call it A)Now all you have to do is react every other substance on the list (the options list) to see if they create a precipitate reactionHighlight them if they doThen react all of your test tubes with the one that you know4The test tubes that create a precipitate reaction are the highlighted ones on your listYou should be able to figure out one or two more solutions now5React your solutions together and use the solubility chart and writing out reactions on paperIt will take a lot of time, but it's like a puzzle-it should all fit together in the endIf you need any more help, feel free to message me (I can always show you the work that I did for this lab).
