Question:

17 tire patch?

Is a used 17 tire with a patch in the tread area safe to buy? Patch was done by professional tire shop, they are now reselling the tire. Will it leak any air over time?

Answer:

RMA Guidelines for the re-sale of used tires recommend against selling any tire that has previously been repaired.
You may have a very slight leak, but if it was done by a professional shop you shoudlnt have anything to worry about.
tires patched one inch from the shoulder {where tread and sidewall meet} in the tread are perfectly fine and will not let you down. like someone else said i wouldn't put on the front if you have the option because the patch will add extra weight to that area and be a bit harder to keep balanced. patches are perfectly fine but avoid at all cost a plugged tire because plugs can get thrown out of the hole they are plugging
