Question:

1993 lincoln town car suspension kit question?

I‘ve been looking for a conventional suspension kit to replace the air suspension on a 1993 lincoln town car, specifically the rear suspension. After going to a couple of websites I found that you can generally buy kits that include the spring and shocks, and some that just have the springs. Are shocks optional then? Can I just use the spring kit alone, or are the spring-only kits supplied with the assumption that the users will provide their own favored shocks? Thanks

Answer:

The best thing is to buy the kit which provides you with everything you need especially for a mechanic to get it converted over correctly. Maybe go back to where you bought the stuff and see if they sell the conversion kit that will take the guessing out of it. I was going to have it done on my Towncar but just like you couldn't find a place that wanted to do it. That was several years ago maybe you might have better luck now.
I think all you have to do is to get springs off a Crown, or Grand Marquis and put them on
I've read that Michelin Pilots are the best motorcycle tires.
I don't know if there is a 'right' way or a 'wrong' way, but I just had that done to my 1994 Crown Vic about three months ago. My dude just replaced springs. (I'm kinda broke.) I am very happy with the way the car rolls and the ride is good. One of your other answers suggested you change shocks, and he has a good point there. How old are they? I don't know how old mine were but like I say, they're fine so far. The car has 117000 miles on it. Butch
