Question:

1993 Mercury Tracer Transmission Problem.?

It‘s automatic, it‘s always switched from first to second gear kind of hard, it almost pops--but now it acts like it‘s having problems switching from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Anyone have any idea what this could be or how expensive it would be to fix? Maybe a rough estimate of how much a rebuilt transmission costs? I checked the transmission fluid, and it‘s fine. The book claims it has a transaxle, is there a difference between transaxles and transmissions? It also idles really hard, any idea what could cause that?

Answer:

Sounds like a bad MLP sensor or your shifter cable brackets are loose. Is your shift lever loose? A transaxle i simply a transmission and differential combined.
the different between transaxle and transmission is the transmission have a single long driveshaft and a rear differential. transaxle have two driveshafts(left and right). ALL mercury 4 and 6 cylinders have transaxle type. problem you describe indicate bad transmission . cause about 1500.00 to rebuild your transmission. if your vehicle have a bad oil leak or worn out suspension parts , dont bother fixing the vehicle. you better off buying another vehicle
ok, i don't think of its a fuse difficulty reason being if it grew to become right into a fuse you have not have been given something era. in case you look heavily on the fuse container decrease than your seat you will see that in case you look at the place the 30amp fuse could flow that there are actually not any electric powered contacts for it to hook as much as, the hollow for the fuse is there yet no connection which you would be able to talk. that is because of the fact your fuse container is the comparable one used on different automobiles form and fashions. that is nice to to envision your Heater Resister change that's placed on the Heater Blower container decrease than the sprint on the passenger ingredient. it could have a small pigtail hooked to it and held in place by potential of two screws, take it out, the coil could desire to be burnt in 0.5 if so this may well be a pair of $15.00 area. If its not burnt so some distance as you may tell verify it for continuity(ohm meter)
