Question:

1993 Subaru Impreze Transmission issue?

I have just drained the transmission fluid to replace with new.no filter, just quick fluid change. Problem.fluid will not drain down and is showing full when only about a 1/4 went back into car. Any suggestions?

Answer:

if you change it before it is due, you are only harming your wallet. over fill it and issues such as a leak or a failing shift can occur.
I do the same thing with my Honda, a quart stays in the torque converter and I drain 3 quarts out and replace that. I just got back from harbor freight and got a suction hose. I wonder if you could siphon the rest out.
I am assuming the transmission is an automatic. In this case you would be lucky to get even half the fluid out. This is because The torque converter still has several quarts of fluid inside. Few automakers provide a means of draining the torque converter. For used to provide a drain in their converter as a means to drain it. The solution? Find a shop that has a flush machine. Wynns and a few other companies make Automatic transmission flush machines that can actually remove all the fluid from your transmission and replace it with new fluid. Keep an eye out for a garage offering a trans flush special. I see coupons for them all the time in our local paper and it is a real bargain.
