How difficult is it to replace the wiper motor on a 2000 Chevy S10?I‘m trying to save some money and I can get a new wiper motor at a reasonable price. I‘m wondering if I can do it myself or if I would be better off having the dealership fix it.
You can keep asking and not liking the answers - or you can have it fixed, your choice.
Inspect the splines on both the wiper arm and the stub coming out of the cowl. I would guess that the wiper arm is the part that is stripped. Replace the entire arm . Use a nylon locking nut to tighten this assembly up and you should be fine. If you just replace the nylon nut it could come loose again at a time when you really need it, so do this the right way. Good Luck
If the motor was bad, both sides wouldn't work. I would try a few things (in this order). 1. There is a nut that holds the wiper arm onto the car. Sometimes this nut gets loose and causes one of the arms not to move. 2. Remove the wiper arm. Sometimes the arm can get 'stripped', and even if the nut is tight enough the arm won't move. If it is the motor, it would depend on your mechanical ability. You can buy an aftermarket motor for under $100, but it may be a little tricky to install.
If is just the driver side that quit working it won't be the wiper motor. There is a plastic clip that either broke or has fell off. Go to any part store get some clips for the wiper linkage and you'll be good to go.
