Question:

2006 dodge caravan sxt check engine light on?

Ok so i recently bought a new car and my van has been sitting for about 2 weeks but i would drive it about once a week and when i moved it out of the garage earlier yesterday the check engine light came on. it looks like there is a hole in the muffler with like water leaking out. So what is causing the check engine light on ?

Answer:

the check engine light will come on for many reasons, the most common problem is a loose gas cap on those so check that first, and then take it to any parts store like auto zone and have them do a quick scan on the computer this way they can tell you the code it gives and that will help you know what made it come on,even condensation in the exhaust system will make the light come on sometimes ,there's only about 50 things that will make that light come on,so you see its impossible to determine that without seeing the van, good luck with it.
When was the van last inspected? I would have it checked out at the dealer. ONLY the dealer has the right software to turn the light off. I know that you probably fear the bill that the dealer will give you but if you can live with the light being on, then delay the visit. However, something could be serious. You can always ask them to look at it and give an cost estimate only. Make it clear to them that you don't want them to fix the problem. Only give an estimate to locate the problem. If they insist that they need to do a bunch of work first, then look for another dodge dealer. Don't let them rob you, but you need to know if this problem will pose a danger to your family when you are riding your kids.
