Question:

350 turbo kickdown cable ?

does it hurt the transmission or transmission life by not hooking up the carb down shift cable? Full size chevy truck 400 hp sbc not used for towing or hauling

Answer:

It wont have any passing gear. You can force it down with the shifter. It wont hurt it. Why don't you hook it up? Wrong carb?
No but it isn't going to downshift anymore when you stomp on the gas so you wont get up to speed very fast anymore unless you are manually downshifting the automatic transmission
Yes, it will hurt the transmission. I found out the hard way with a $1500 rebuilt bill from the transmission shop. I had a truck that the kick down cable wasn't hooked up and I didn't know it was attached at the carb. Then I had no overdrive, the transmission shop found that the kick down cable was unhooked at the transmission end. With it not hooked up it burned up the overdrive gear in the transmission.

1st. David you are miss guided. If you had an over drive transmission then you did NOT have a detent (kick down) cable. You had a throttle valve (TV) cable. On the OD trans, the TV cable controls line pressure for all shifts and if not adjusted right it will kill the transission, much less if its not even hooked up On a th-350, it is only a detent cable to force a 3 to 2 downshift at 75% throttle opening or more. It will NOT hurt the transmission in any way to leave it off. Also with a 400 HP SBC, the forced 3 to 2 shift is not needed. 400 HP is more than enough to accel and pull away fast in third gear. We have a th-350 behind a 700 HP twin turbo'ed 331 (327 bored) and have never hooked up the kickdown cable. 3 years now, no probs. 10 years ago I had a th-350 behind a 375 HP 350, ran it w/o the kickdown for a year. I did hook it up after that, and I noticed the kickdown cable got me about 200 rpm higher sift points on all up shifts I had a th-400 in my camaro for the last 8 years and never once even though about hooking the elec. kickdown up on it. With 505 HP I don't need it
