Question:

50cc Motorcycle - Legal for the road?

I‘ve recently purchased a 50cc Honda Motorcycle. It has street legal tires, blinkers, headlights, mud flaps and even a dink little horn.I went down to my local DMV and tried to figure out if a 50cc bike is required to be registered AND if the driver has to be licence but neither the people working at the DMV knew nor did any of their books clearly state if it was or not.Anyone know where I can at least look up the laws? I live in Kootenai County, Idaho.

Answer:

It is legal to ride in the street if it will pass your states inspection. Headlight - high low beam Turn signals Horn At least one mirror Brake lights - front rear Tail light No cracked lenses, or mirror Street legal tires with at least 2/32 tread depth in the center of the tread. No dry rot on the side walls Working brakes that aren't worn past their ware limits. No leaking fork seals, or leaks of any kind. Steering bearings can't be loose or worn. Scooters come in 50cc models and they are street legal. The bike has to be registered. The bike needs to have insurance. The operator has to have a motorcycle license. If you want to check your states laws, do a web search for Idaho DMV
too bad you don't live in Minnesota! here you can ride one down the side of the road just like it were a mountain-bike or 10-speed. The funniest part is .you only need to be 12 years and older. The one catch is, when making left turns you are supposed to walk it (just go slowly) accross in the crosswalks. You don't need a license or anything else though.
