Question:

Motorcycle Tire Tread Patterns. Which is better?

There s a lot of different tread patterns of tires on eBay. Obviously some are more for off-roading than others but I have an older caferacer style bike. I ride it everywhere. I like the vintage looking tread styles. But should I just get a set of modern pattern tires like I had? And there s plenty different patterns of street tires. Which is a good all rounder? Is there a rule of thumb?

Answer:

One word of advice: Buy from a real store. Getting a deal on a dried out old stock tire on eBay may save you a few bucks, but may cost you in the long run in repairs and medical bills.
Try Shinko, good price and long lasting. But would not recoment for track day.
Several rules of thumb. Tires come on all sorts of flavors and picking the right one depends on your taste of riding. I live/ride in the Pac. Nor-West where it rains quite a bit so my taste is in an all season type tire that handles well in both rain and sunshine, plus I ride a big duel-sport that handles the road quite nicely. I picked Michelin Anakee 3s because they wear pretty good, deal with the street well and are okay in the dirt. Another rule is MONEY- like how much do you wish to spend?
