Question:

97 Neon Instrument cluster?

Have anyone heard of the circuit board going bad or moreso solder joints breaking. My Speed Clock works itermitently and I beleive its the Circuit Board. For those that think its the Speed Sensor or the contacts of the Plug in operations that is not correct both have positive readings.

Answer:

I never had this problem with my old Neon however I had a problem with the spedometer working properly but that was because of the indiglo guage pod only.
It is the circuit board. Don t waste your time trying to fix it. Just buy a replacement. At this point there are going to be more problems popping up on that board.
That instrument cluster has a flexible printed circuit board behind it. It is made of a micro-thin line of copper sandwiched between 2 sheets of plastic. I have seen the board ( sheet) fail, as well as the voltage limiter which is integral to the board as well, but never a solder joint. Most malfunctions of this type can be traced to either the board itself or the connector leading into it. With a thin curved pick, close up the gap at the terminals in the connector block in the dash. There is no real way to test it, but if all the inputs are correct, then the board is no good. I don't know if Chrysler has that circuit board available separately or if only comes with the instrument cluster. A quick call to the dealer's parts department will answer that quick enough.
