Good suggestions so far. I started with blankets under me to reduce heat loss to the mattress. Then long johns and thick socks. One night I got out my old sleeping bag and slipped into it under the covers. Ah! Local thrift stores (I prefer those that are associated with a local church) are an excellent source of cheap blankets and comforters, just be sure to wash them before using, And now for an attempt at humor: Have you considered a pair of 6' studs? No, not from the lumber yard, I mean the kind from the local college! wink, wink.
Some (all of the newer) models have a time limit on them. Once you plug them in or energize them, the clock starts. Most will beep once that time limit is reached. It could be time to replace the unit.
