Wear oven mitts if it won't limit your ability to do the project. They can catch on fire, but if you're working from a distance can save you from burns (just got a nice burn blister from working with hot plastic). For hot objects, use tongs if possible to transport them, but use your judgement as to whether or not it would be wise to use them. Wear sleeves long enough to cover your wrists as much as you can without them slipping over your hands (as this would be a MAJOR fire hazard). Also it is much advised by an unfortunate personal experience by me that you wear long pants and shoes. Try to leave as little skin possible exposed without limiting your ability if you want the gist. Hope this helps :)
