I need to get a high chair for my daughter because feeding her solids while she's in her bumbo is killing my back. Do any moms have any advice for purchasing a high chair? any recommended brands or types? any features to look for?
look for a model that will sit on a chair, floor, or table. they're cheaper don't take up as much space. they will become a handy booster seat or TV chair for an older child.
Since a high chair isn't a high injury risk thing (like a crib or car seat), buy it used. You'll save tons of money. Check Craigslist and garage sales.
We LOVE our booster chair. Its the kind that sits on a regular chair. We got a really good deal on ours. It was less than 20 bucks. Check Babies R us. Is there any warehouse stores in your area? Like Costco, Sam's Club or Bj's? That's where we got ours. Comes with that table that attaches to the chair.
We got the kind that straps to a regular chair. I'm afraid I don't remember the brand, but they are rather easy to find, we got ours second hand and I think we paid $5 for it. I loved it because it didn't take up any extra space in my kitchen (I have a house that was built in the '50's so space is extremely limited) and it was easy to take it with us when we went to visit family. We got the kind that you can use with or without the tray so we were able to use it as a booster seat when she got a little bit bigger.
Something all plastic that you can take outside and hose down. I heard ikea has a good one.
