melodic metal bands? any good ones like nightwish, sonata arctica?
None of those bands listed are heavy metal; they're more like hardcore / deathcore. If you want to listen to Death Metal, you should try Decapitated, Morbid Angel, Death, Sinister, Grave, Behemoth (new), Hypocrisy, Obituary, to name a few......
Death Metal can have a lot more emphasis on the guitars and has a lot of growling vocals unlike heavy and screamo. They can also have darker themes to their music. Screamo, as the name indicates, has a lot of screaming or shrieking in the lyrics unlike death or heavy. Death Metal Dimmu Borgir Cannibal Corpse Dethklok (sp?) Heavy Metal Iced Earth Grave Digger Metallica Judas Priest Edguy Screamo Girugamesh Slipknot Alesana Underoath

BMTH isnt screamo; screamo is a genre thats a mix between punk and emo, with screams. BMTH is deathcore, and just because a vocalist screams doesnt make it screamo. And yeah for the stuff like BMTH heres some good bands Whitechapel job for a cowboy Suicide Silence The black dahlia murder Annotations of an autopsy As blood runs black acacia strain heaven shall burn molotov solution, i declare war the faceless
Heavy metal, TRUE metal would be bands like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple, etc. BFMV is more of a Metalcore band. Bring me the horizon is Deathcore, (death Metal/Metalcore/crap) The stuff you are listening to isn't heavy metal, Tool, and Mastodon might be a different style of sub genre though. The rest is just screamo crap. Death Metal is music that has fast drums and guitar, high distortion guitar, and usually really rough low growling/screaming vocals.
