Question:

Anybody Know about super chargers?

I am looking at this super charger for my 1999 Ford Contour: Supercharger Turbonator Stage 2. Anybody know about it?

Answer:

I would work on the internals and get a bigger motor before getting a super charger. A super charger cost more then a cheap crate engine, and saps some power out of you motor, (300 hp w/150 hp super charger actually eguals about 425 hp, but puts wear of 450 hp).
A supercharger will cost more than what your car is worth.
Save yer money--it'll only get ya in trouble, and cost ya a lot in gasoline! Not to mention possibly blowing up yer engine! And, the first time ya spin the tires on the street, the law will surely be listening, and clap ya in irons--better known as hand-cuffs! Pass on those ideas!
Those things are little better then a scam, save your $$$$. If a simple electric fan could add 30 hp to any car, don't you think every car would come from the factory with one or two ?? Just the latest scam for car owners. Saw another 'fuel saver' that you just plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, and it guaranteed 20% better mileage by changing the magnetic field surrounding your car.
super chargers generally are not the top choice among power adders. a superchargers generally takes 70-80 horses just to spin the damn thing. but on the other hand its instant power. as soon as you mat the gas pedal you feel the power. i would generally say go for a turbocharger. they are free power because they run off of your cars exhaust pressure. but you have to build rpm's to get the power. either way, make sure you upgrade your cars internals before adding anything like that to it.
