i know that the axle itself is different, but what about the housing is that different
housing should be inch or so widre on 1 ton.leaf spring perches maybe out farther too.still fit with minor modifications.maybe hour or two to do everything and have it on the ground with wheels and tires.
Not even close. 1/2 ton axle housings are only about 1 inch in diameter. 3/4 ton and 1 ton are around 2 inches or more. If you want to change things, get a Dana 60 and replace the whole thing. Be safe.suspend the vehicle from above as well as using jack stands. Cut the old mount plates off of your 1/2 ton rear end and weld them onto the 1 ton rear end. Get it all straight. Good luck.
no the 1 ton is what is called a floater which means you can remove the axle without removing the axle hub many off roaders will swap them in for rock crawling as the axles are quite a bit stronger mainly you need to check spring pads and track width but most will fit into a 1/2 ton chassis
