Question:

are firestone tires ok?

i‘ve some good discount for firestone tires for my corolla, but a friend said that Firestone tires are not that safe, so i Googled and found this bad publicity back in 2001 where ford explorer SUVs had so many accidents due to the tires peeling off. What do you think? are these tires now safe? thanks.

Answer:

Yeah Firestones are fine.
Since then, Firestone has recalled that line of tires. They have also since fixed any major defects in their design. The imperfections in the tires were not in the design, but in the manufacturing process. Besides, even if the tires still weren't fixed, it wouldn't matter to you because all the problems were with truck tires, specifically those sold to Ford in 2001 for the Explorers.
I would ask the local Firestone store this question. Don't you think that they would be better qualified to answer a question like this? If this is covered, there is something that you should know. When something destroys a tire, you do not get full price for the tire. The tire has a life rating. They mat even measure the tread depth. Your reimbursement will be pro rated based upon how many more miles the tire would have lasted under normal circumstances.
