Question:

Are shift and throttle cables universal?

I have a 82 Chris Craft I bought a month or so ago. It needs new shift cable and throttle cable. However the motor is an updated one. It is a 1999 Johnson 200 outboard. When I look to buy the cables, do I buy them for the boat or for the engine? Thanks.

Answer:

Hello, You will need the cables for the engine, the Teleflex part number would be CC205xx,if it has a factory control box(OMC) or a CC172xx or CC230xx if using an aftermarket control box,the xx would be the length in feet.Your old control cables should have the length stamped on the cable.Hope this helped.
