Mountain bikes under $300 are not mountain bikes. They are called all-terrain (ATB) bikes intended for a mix of riding on the road and offroad on groomed trails. No DH, no AM, no rough XC. Regarding Diamondback, they offer variations on their catalog bikes to anyone that can support a large enough order. For example, their excellent (for the money) Response has some deviates depending on where you shop, like the Response X. These deviants often have slightly different specs than the real one usually to give the retailer a better profit margin at the expense of lower end components or some other thing. So, make sure that the bike you are looking at is an official Diamondback model (easily done by looking at a catalog) AND that the dealer offers after-the-sale support. You'll be fine.
