Question:

Are transmission slips normal in all cars?

I own a 95 accord and an 04 passat. both are well over 100k miles and occasionally i get a transmission slip, which i dont think much of because theyve got alot of miles under their belts. however im currently in possession of a 2010 altima with barely 20k miles on it and have had 2 transmission slips within a couple weeks. Im just curious, are transmission slips indication of a problem or is it an average thing that happens in all cars occasionally?

Answer:

the altima has a cvt transmission in it and due to design it will have a little bit of a slip to it
no but low miles doesn't mean anything about car shape. check to make sure u have enough tranny oil. i don't know much about automatic trannys sorry. im assuming that those are both automatics btw. if there manuals check the clutch fluid and plates if u can.
Please tell us if each transmission is a standard or automatic. When you notice a slip with a standard transmission car the clutch is slipping not the transmission. If both transmissions are automatics check the transmission fluid in this manner after a 10 mile drive: Shift the transmission lever through all the gears, set the emergency brake, shift the transmission into drive then check the fluid. When you take time to ask questions, be more specific what gear you're in and how fast you're going when the transmission slips.
