Question:

At what temperature do you blanket your horse?

Everyone at the barn where I board has a different answerSome say to blanket in the 30's, some say to wait till 20's.others say don't do it at allI'm trying to stay as close to the way nature intended for my horses in all aspects, but this is one of the ways I'm a little on the fence aboutWhat temp does everyone blanket (or not), what about wind, snow, etc? Also, what about stalling? I have stalls, but I want to do what makes the horses happyPersonally, if I were a horse, I wouldn't want to be cooped up in a stall all the time.

Answer:

Not just today but all week longA woman attending UT of Knoxville TN, was ran over and killed by some idiotThen there was some shooting in a schoolThen on the kentucky, virginia border there were 2 ppl that were shot and killed Its just not a one day thing it is a everyday thing of violence!
Just the usualI live in SoCA, so there are wild fires, car chases, shootingsThis happens every week I have to admit, though, the shooting of the young 16 year old girl was the topsPoor thingI guess he molested her and then shot herThat's a horrible way for a nice, young sweet girl to die.
Ah, yes, wonderful Wisconsin, the wonderful state that brought us Jeffrey Dahmer and Ed GeinMaybe it's something in the cheeseDespite the occasional oddaball, it's actually a pretty decent state, home of many fine people such as myself(blush blush) By the way, did you read a couple of weeks ago about the fellow who fell into a vat of chocolate in Milwaukee?
The whole world is going to ! I live in Western NC, and that is where one of the FBI's Most Wanted, John Woody Woodring is fromHe is on the run after shooting and killing his wife at a domestic abuse shelter, some fifty miles from where I liveThere is a nationwide manhunt on for him, and he will be featured tomorrow (Saturday, September 30) on America's Most WantedAlso locally, police are searching for a sociopath who killed and dismembered a local girl, and dumped her body into the riverA mother just killed her baby boy, after having been returned to her by social services when he was taken to the hospital for a fractured arm-at TWO WEEKS oldShe claimed to have fallen with the baby in the shower, and they believed her story, only to have her bring him back into the hospital a few weeks later with cerebral edema (swelling of the brain); this time the baby diedLast, but not least, you may remember the man who ran down four people at a McDonald's in GA., killing a two-year-old girlThe family live in our area, and the driver of the car has plead not guilty.
Most horses will do fine without a blanket as long as they're not clippedPersonally, I will blanket mine when it gets down to 10 degrees or soAt that point, my mare usually is showing signs of being cold: shivering, standing kind of hunched up, etcWhen she tells me she is cold, I usually just blanket the other three as wellWind will chill them if it gets under the hair and ruins their natural insulationHorses should always have some sort of shelter from the windSnow doesn't usually bother them, but if they get all wet sometimes it does (my mare and an old pony complain about it)Your horses will probably be happier turned out, but will need shelter if they choose itCan you leave the stalls open so they can come and go as they wish?
