I will soon need tires for my car. Michellin tires are very good in my opinion, but very expensive. I checked tire ratings/feedback from alleged owners of various tires on a web site called TheTire Rack. The highest rated tire in my size was a General Tire-- General Altima HP to be exact. I am skeptical because the cost is about 1/2 the cost of Michellin. Anyone had any long term experience with the above mentioned General tire? Thanks
Hi I work for a tire and auto repair shop, general tires are a decent tire, michelin tires are about the name, they develop premature cracking and are over priced. I sell both of them as well as bridgestone, firestone continental, toyo, pretty much what ever the customer wants. the altima Hp is a good reasonably priced tire you should do ok with them.
I agree Michelin is a good brand of tire, but it's important to remember that Michelin, GoodYear, FireStone etc. are in fact brands, the same manufacturing facility's that produce these tires also manufacture several other brands with very similar quality, but you will pay a premium price big name tires, you will find that several big retailers Farm and Fleet for example sells cooper and several other not widely known brands but most all of them are produced at the firestone facility you pay much less but generally get a very good quality tire. Good luck
If you live in winter country, you will want the Altima RT. I have the RT on my car. It is excellent, and the snow traction is higher than the HP. I can attest to excellent handling in rain as well. If you don't live in winter country, or switch to winter tires for snow season, then the HP is a good tire. I bought the RT because the larger cleats on the outside edges give the higher snow traction rating. They have not lost any air pressure since the day they were installed, either, something I couldn't say about my previous tires. Note they have a pretty good mileage rating as well, rated for 125,000 kilometres. I have had General tires before, and never had any problems or complaints, and never had to make a warranty claim.
