Question:

Battery light always on?

In my 1986.5 Toyota Supra, the battery light is always on. The car starts, runs, and the alternator always charges the battery great I have brand new terminals. I am mechanically inclined but I have never run into this before I‘d some feedback maybe help me toss some ideas into the air on what it could be, also the wires look great and the voltage reads fine and the grounding and tightness of the wires are solid.

Answer:

It means that there is an issue with your charging system. Maybe the belt is slipping on your alternator? Maybe it is starting to go bad, but not to a noticeable point yet. It could also just be a bad sensor, it happens in old cars. When you leave your car in Aux position, with stereo on, does your battery drain fast? Could be a bad battery.
I would say just get the leak fixed, unless your transmission is slipping and not going into gear you should be fine.
a leak doesnt mean tranny is bad,,It means you have a leak,,find leak,,fix it
The alternator could have one undesirable diode and it will nevertheless floor cost the battery adequate to maintain the automobile beginning and working in case you employ it every day. probability is that in case you enable the automobile take a seat for each week with out utilising it, it won't initiate. An older battery (4 years or extra) that for the period of basic terms gets surfaced charged is in all probability in choose of substitute as nicely. An alternator with one undesirable diode won't placed out 13.7 volts so in case you have a volt meter you may attempt the alternator your self with the aid of taking the voltage interpreting on the battery posts with the motor at a million,500 rpm.
Could be just a weak battery, but If everything seams to be OK you could just have a short in the system or a bad warning light. I would take it to your local advance auto or autozone, they will test your alternator/battery for free. Sweet car, btw. I owned a '87.5 Supra turbo
