Question:

bearings that seperate?

i need a 2 piece bearing that has plates (like the swivel on a computer chair) but can seperate and be put back together...anyone know how to make this or know where i can get one (i plan on welding a metal disk to each side but i want to be able to seperate the disk when repair is necessary)

Answer:

You can have seperate pieces, but you sepArate them. I think you would have to design an assembly to suit your needs. Most bearings are inseperable. You just need to separate the bearing housing from the whatever.
Your description leaves me guessing about your concept. For example is it a journal or a thrust bearing and for what kind of duty (load). The only truly separable bearings I know of are pressurised oil, white-metal lined journal bearings but I'd guess that tilting pad thrust bearings could conceivably be set up in some kind of a separable arrangement - the pads can be individually removed anyway; perhaps this would qualify for your separation requirement?
