Question:

Bent rear axle on my ford taurus. How much to repair?

I backed off a slight ledge and the rear wheel of my taurus slipped off bending the rear axle. its a 2005. the wheel is off track and I have to hold the steering wheel at about a 75 degree angle to keep the car straight. So what I need to know is how much will this cost to repair and would it be safe to drive temporarily.

Answer:

Well you're going to wear out your tyre if you drive as it is as well as not have very good control of your car. It'll cost quite a bit. Best course of action would be to get a second had axle from an auto wrecker and get that fitted. Cost quite a bit less and better than trying to straighten the old one or buying a new one.
Likely you did not bend the axle. The lower control arms struts are extremely flimsy they are the parts that are bent. Go to your local auto wrecker purchase the necessary parts. →→→
Theres not a rear axle on a front wheel drive car. The part I think you'r talking about is called a lateral trak bar(I'm a bit rusty with the wrench) it can have different names for the same thing depening on manufacturer. If you'r lucky the part might not even be bent. That part is where rear toe is adusted for alignment, thats why you'r steering wheel is bent off because you now have a positive thrust angle. Alignment runs about 60 bucks in most parts of the country. If the part is in fact bent you'r prabably lookin at 40 bucks labor, under 100 for parts plus the 60 for alingnment
