I don't want to PAY to join Consumer Reports online :(
I recently purchased a Whirlpool Duet Sport for my condo because the Sport stacked and fit into my laundry closet. Out of all the front loaders I have repaired over the years, the Whirlpool was the one with significantly fewer problems than the others. I opted to stay away from off shore models as parts are sometimes difficult to get in a reasonable time frame as there are fewer supply sources. Any time you are purchasing appliances, call a couple of repair places and ask them what they have the fewest calls on or which are the least expensive to repair.
I have the maytag neptune, which works well. I know that Whirlpool and LGI make a good washer. Just some information after you use it you need to dry out the gasket. Most people dont and this causes a mildew smell. I keep an old towel handy, dry out the gasket and have had mine for at least 8 years.
In my house we own a Frigidaire front load Washer and Dryer, since we had it, its been great, it saves a ton of water usage, has a nice dial for selecting ,very quiet at times you would forget its running.I think the saving difference in water consumption verses a standard top loader was a difference in like 20 gallons per load.Along with other dryers they have optional pedistals you can buy with them to raise them higher off the ground they include a nice storage area. And like the other post said you do get water that does collects in the gasket which needs to be dryed you can dry it with a towel , or we just leave the door open when were done and it drys itself out. Since doing that have yet had a problem.Hope this helps.
