Question:

Best homemade carpet stain remover?

I am looking for a recipe that I can put in a spray bottle. A lot of the homemade concoctions I'm finding are ones that require dumping and rubbing into the stain, which I don't want to do as I have hardwood underneath and I've already overwashed my carpets from when my dogs were puppies. A lot of the store bought cleaners have discolored my carpets. I would like a solution I can spray on and blot up. Thanks

Answer:

I love to use White Vinegar in a quart squirt container. To that you can add ammonia and a teas of dish soap. I've had the grand kids, puppies, kittens, dogs all have accidents on my carpets and none of these pets were mine. I found the combination of those ingred. work good together whether you have a small carpet cleaner or not. Even plain white vinegar works in some instances. When you clean a stain try to get to it right away if you can. I then use an old large bath towel and do the twist over where you are removing the stain. After you've absorbed the dirt or spill and the old bath towel is dirty it means you've pulled out the stain. Maybe you still need to keep twisting to get more, but in general this works great for me. I dislike the carpet cleaners to just spray on because it leaves a soapy film. Best of luck to you.
As a professional carpet cleaner, I can tell you the commercially made products are much better, easier to deal with and cheaper, really cheap if they are janitorial brands and really better if they are carpet cleaning trade brands. No sense in reinventing the wheel. Store bough cleaners did not discolor your carpet, the dog urine did. Your real solution is a certified pro or continue making a bad situation worse.
Dawn dish soap does wonders on oily stains. Scrub it in and rinse well. Then wash as usual. I've also had really good luck with just covering a stain with liquid Tide, letting it sit, then washing. As far as the carpet, I just just plain hot water on mine. I have a light weight Bissell carpet cleaner. It doesn't do a professional job, but it works pretty well. I wouldn't use anything flammable on either your clothes, nor your carpet. On your clothes, even rinsed out, it is not advisable to dry it in a dryer, as the oil from the flammable chemicals do not rinse out easily. On the carpet, you never know when heat, or a spark could come in contact with the floor, and having your living room burst into flames would not be fun.
Depends on the style of carpet and type of stain. The best all rounder would be Solution of 1 teaspoon of approved carpet detergent with 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and 1 litre of warm water.
Homemade carpet cleaner recipe: 1. Pour 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol into an empty, never-used spritzer bottle. 2. You're done. I've cleaned many carpet spots with nothing but isopropyl alcohol. Spray it on, gently scrub, and blot with paper towels or a clean piece of terry cloth. Unlike vinegar and ammonia, isopropyl alcohol doesn't seem to entice dogs to pee on the spot. You can buy 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol at just about any drug store in the country.
