My sciatic kills me; plus I've got nerve damage in my shoulders from holding my arms out all the time. What's the best ergonomic office chair to alleviate the symptoms? Please don't send $800 suggestions. I could consider chairs up to $300 maximum.
Ergonomics is more than just a good chair. Your whole workstation must be properly set up. Let me ask a few questions: Do you use a keyboard tray? Do you have a flat screen monitor at your desk and is it supported by a monitor arm (Not the stand provided by the manufacturer)? Do you sit in a cubicle or in an office? In regards to the chair, there is no one chair that is better than any other. Chairs are personal and what might work for you will not work for others. Unfortunately, office chairs are expensive. The less expensive chairs you see in retail stores are usually rated for only 2-3 hours per day and do not have the support or warranty for an 8 hour day. To find a good chair, that will have either a synchro-tilt mechanism or a counter-balance mechanism you are probably going to spend closer to $500. I would suggest calling an office-furniture dealer in your area. They will be able to come to your place of business an provide you with demo chairs so you can find the chair that is the best fit for you.
